Welcome to the blog. My relationship with horse racing began in childhood, fueled by the mud and adrenaline of National Hunt racing. While the jumps were my first love, over the years my focus shifted from the obstacles to the origins—specifically the fascinating, high-speed world of Flat breeding.
The Search for the “Pure” Line
I became a dedicated lover of the greats, developing a lifelong obsession with the legendary Danzig and his prolific son, Danehill. To me, these lines represent the pinnacle of speed, precocity, and class.
As the seasons pass, finding direct descendants of these giants has become a challenge. The bloodlines are diluting, and that pure “Danzig sharpness” is harder to spot. But that challenge is exactly why I’m still here, notebook in hand hunting the Next Generation
While I’ll always have an eye on the old guard, I am now focused on identifying the new generation of sires who carry that same spark. Whether it’s the emerging dominance of the Wootton Bassett sons (like Camille Pissarro or Henri Matisse), the speed of the Mehmas line, or the next “Sire of Sires,” I am constantly looking for the modern equivalent of the greats I grew up following.
I am my own personal “Virtual” Bloodstock Agent
I love the sales and the Breeze-Ups—the atmosphere, the clocking of sectionals, and the physical presence of a horse that just “looks the part.” This blog serves as a record of my scouting.
I use this space to:
Pick the “Best of the Best”: I identify the horses I would buy if I had the unlimited budget of a global powerhouse.
The Reasoning: I dive into the pedigree, the stride analysis, and the breeze times to explain why a particular lot stands out.
The Results: I track these “virtual buys” throughout their careers to see how they perform on the track versus their price tag.
Think of this as a scouting report for the fan who loves the science of the sport as much as the race itself. I’m glad you’re along for the ride.
